Elizabeth Smart, Ed Smart and John Walsh were interviewed on Larry King last night. Elizabeth and Ed answered questions posed by Larry King and Elizabeth seemed to appear as normal as possible.
Ed Smart has enjoyed his media spotlight since Elizabeth went missing and continues to use his daughter's tragic ordeal to keep him in the spotlight.
Her father, the male Priesthood Authority in her life fielded most of the questions and almost "lead the witness" in answering questions. Elizabeth seemed detached from the entire episode of what happened to her with Brian David Mitchell.
Elizabeth was asked, "Did you -- do you think back often to the night you were taken?" and "Don't think about it much?" Elizabeth responded No to both questions flatly with no other expression. In fact, most of the questions posed to her by Larry King were answered with a "No" or a "Yes".
When asked if she was upset with God about being taken, she responded:
"Oh, absolutely but I mean, ah, why someone else? I mean, you know, I asked myself the same question. I mean if it wasn't me who would it be? And, I mean I'm happy to say that, you know, I am here today and I am doing great."
Elizabeth is clearly detached from the reality of her ordeal and Mormonism is to blame for keeping her in the dark. Mormonism teaches that one must suppress the emotions and problems - and pray and forgive those who imposed the injustices on them.
Her father fielded most of Elizabeth's answers and most of the topics surrounded John Walsh, sexual predator legislation, etc. Very little time was paid to Elizabeth and what time was paid was brief and meaningless.
I have very little faith in Larry King. He never asks any hard questions. Some of the questions he could have asked could have been directed at Elizabeth's father. Some of them could have been directed at Elizabeth; however, Larry King is married to a Mormon and would never betray that trust. Even when King interviewed Gordon B. Hinckley, he would not press him for full details.
When Larry King asked Elizabeth if she was a devout Mormon, Elizabeth responded with an affirmed yes.
Brian David Mitchell was a temple worker before he was excommunicated. Elizabeth, while Mormon, was too young to know or understand the signs, tokens and temple rituals. Because Mormon cult rituals are secret - it is highly doubtful that Elizabeth knew anything of them until Mitchell used them on her. Because of the psychological makeup of Mitchell, it is very clear that he took her out into the woods and through the signs and tokens, Mitchell made Elizabeth his second wife. I am very sure that he used the signs and tokens and Mormon Temple rituals to seal Elizabeth to him.
Unfortunately we will never know the full truth behind Elizabeth because she is already in full denial of what happened to her. Like that liar Gordon B. Hinckley, wherein he stated, "That was the past, we go forward", Elizabeth states, "I am here today and I'm doing great."
It will be very interesting and difficult for Elizabeth when she returns to the Mormon Temple to do her endowments and finds men and women wearing robes, using signs, tokens, new names and Mormon Temple rituals that were used on her by Mitchell. It may possibly provide such an overwhelming remembrance of her time with Brian David Mitchell that she may end up having an emotional breakdown.
When Elizabeth is brought into the prayer circle and participates in the cult ritual of "Oh God, hear the words of my mouth!" (said three times in unison by everyone attending) it may well send her over the deep end into an emotional psychosis.
Mormonism created Brian David Mitchell. It gave him the tools, the Priesthood power, and the Temple Rituals. While Mitchell was already emotional and psychologically impaired, Mormonism taught him how to act and Mitchell followed the course - albeit in a bizarre way - to its bitter end.
I have been called on the carpet for stating that Mormonism created Mitchell. While Brian was already long since on a psychological "destructive path", Mormonism gave Mitchell the tools and the power of the so-called priesthood, for which he then turned around and used on those around him - including Elizabeth. It has created other monsters throughout history with its "mystical" and "magical" powers of Priesthood, signs and tokens, visions and prophecies. While Mitchell may have been an extreme, we cannot discount others such as Porter Rockwell, the Danites, the Lafferty Brothers (using Brigham Young's Blood Atonement Doctrine) or even Brigham Young himself with his extremist and racist views. Mormonism teaches men that they are ultimately the authority in everything Mormon - and women are second class citizens who must obey the male - or they will denied resurrection and entrance into the Celestial Kingdom.x
We also do not know the full story behind Elizabeth and Ed Smart. The theory exists that Elizabeth was not abducted by Brian David Mitchell but choose to go with him due to problems in the Smart home. I do not believe that we have heard the full story behind the Smarts. Ed Smart continues to use his daughter as a media-whore, flaunting her everywhere he goes.
Elizabeth is not healed from her ordeal nor do I expect her to ever be healed while continuing to be a devout Mormon. While it is not discussed and the case has been sealed, I am very sure that Mitchell continually raped Elizabeth during her ordeal with him. Mormonism teaches us that it was Elizabeth's fault for being a victim of Mitchell.
Richard G. Scott states that Elizabeth is responsible for Mitchell's abuse:
"The Lord may prompt a victim to recognize a degree of responsibility for abuse. " - Apostle Richard G. Scott "Healing the Tragic Scars of Abuse," General Conference, Ensign, May 1992
If Elizabeth Smart failed to fight back when Mitchell sexually abused her, then Elizabeth is better off dead:
"It is better to die in defending one's virtue than to live having lost it without a struggle." - The Miracle Of Forgiveness, Spencer W. Kimball.
Elizabeth Smart will never heal from the scars that Mormonism created. Brian David Mitchell is at fault for his actions, however, Mormonism continues to teach that Elizabeth is ultimately to blame and will continue to teach her the bizarre rituals of secret handshakes, secret "New Names" (as Brian Mitchell gave her one), and men standing around with stories of kingdoms of heaven, obedience and faith.
For Elizabeth Smart to fully heal she will need to see the cult of Mormonism for what it truly is: A cult. I truly feel sorry for Elizabeth. She will never know the truth. She will never understand what happened. She will be told she must forgive and forget. She will never understand that she was a victim of her own cult. Because Mormonism has demanded that she suppress her true feelings and go forward - Mormonism may already have created yet another monster.
Dr. Daniel Peterson is a BYU Professor of Islamic Studies and an expert on the analysis of scripture. Prosecutors say he "will speak to the coherency of Mitchell's writings." Peterson told us by phone he will testify about whether Mitchell wrote his scripture in an "ecstatic" mental state or whether the writings are "the product of a deliberate, cool mind."
Peterson did not reveal his conclusions to us, and prosecutors barred interviews.
In a motion opposing the testimony, Mitchell's defense team said, "Whether other fringe groups or individuals share similar delusions as Mr. Mitchell's is irrelevant."
Daniel C. Peterson, Mormon Apologist and Mormon Secret Service Agent (SCMC). Daniel is the leading Apologist for the Mormon owned and operated "Neal Maxwell Institute", also known as "Foundation For Ancient Research And Mormon Studies" or FARMS.

First, I think what happened to her was despicable...but...
A 14-year old girl sexually abused and manipulated by a much older man who used religion, god, and force to get what he wanted...
...is soon going on a mission to spread the "gospel" created by a man who used religion, god and force to get what he wanted from a 14-year-old girl.
I've been reading the comments section of the D-News regarding the trial. The majority want Mitchell castrated and executed. But many of these fools will still weep over Joseph "the martyr".
Brian Mitchell and Joseph Smith...cut from the same twisted cloth. Raped by one, testifying of the other.
I feel sorry for the poor woman. Religious fanaticism demolished her innocence and she will be planting the seeds of religious fanaticism in others.
Brian David Mitchell took Elizabeth Smart as his spiritual wife. Elizabeth was 14. Brian has been arrested and is now standing trial, most likely he will get life in prison. Not a single Mormon thinks that Brian is a man of God.
Joseph Smith took Helen Mar Kimball as his spiritual wife. Helen was 14. Today 13 million Mormons will testify that Joseph Smith was a man of God.
Friday, Oct 2, 2009, at 07:56 AM Should Elizabeth Smart "Recognize A Degree Of Responsibility For Abuse"? Original Author(s): Aaron ELIZABETH SMART -Guid-
"Most often, the victim is innocent because of being disabled by fear or the power or authority of the offender. At some point in time, however, the Lord may prompt a victim to recognize a degree of responsibility for abuse. Your priesthood leader will help assess your responsibility so that, if needed, it can be addressed. Otherwise the seeds of guilt will remain and sprout into bitter fruit. Yet no matter what degree of responsibility, from absolutely none to increasing consent, the healing power of the atonement of Jesus Christ can provide a complete cure. (See D&C; 138:1–4.) Forgiveness can be obtained for all involved in abuse. (See A of F 1:3.) Then comes a restoration of self-respect, self-worth, and a renewal of life." - Richard G. Scott, “Healing the Tragic Scars of Abuse,” Ensign, May 1992, 31
What kind of thing was Scott thinking of?
"Also far-reaching is the effect of loss of chastity. Once given or taken or stolen it can never be regained. Even in a forced contact such as rape or incest, the injured one is greatly outraged. If she has not cooperated and contributed to the foul deed, she is of course in a more favorable position. There is no condemnation where there is no voluntary participation. It is better to die in defending one's virtue than to live having lost it without a struggle." - Spencer Kimball, Miracle of Forgiveness
Just in case your eyes skipped over it, let me quote again the key sentence there from Kimball:
"It is better to die in defending one's virtue than to live having lost it without a struggle."
Firstly, I have a hard time thinking this is a pastoral way of speaking to victims of sexual abuse, particularly with all the mental anguish and confusion and self-doubt that can follow.
Secondly, the clear implication seems to be that, according to Spencer Kimball, Elizabeth Smart, knowing the intention of Brian David Mitchell to continue to rape her, should have attempted her escape even knowing she had been threatened with death. And since she apparently didn't attempt to escape to the degree that Kimball thinks she should have (to the point of death), she lost virtue and became guilty of a degree of condemnation.
